Let’s Talk Sports

Published on July 5th, 2012

So much has been going on in the world of sports with the basketball season ending and the football season beginning. Everything from trades to injuries. Some players want to find a new home and others like the position they are in. I don’t want to keep you in suspense any longer, let’s get to the juiciness. Leggo!
First stop the land of football. Last year the San Francsico 49ers were one step away from the Super Bowl but were defeated by the New York Giants. San Francsico 49er linebacker Aldon Smith contributed great things to the team to help them get in that position, with 14 sacks and 30 tackles. Even though Aldon has done great things on the field, it is off the field that he hasn’t been so successful. This past Saturday Aldon was rushed to the hospital with stab wounds.
Friday night Aldon threw a house party at his San Jose home when a fight broke out. Aldon tried to break it up but became a victim himself by getting stabbed twice, once in the shoulder and once in the abdomen. Thank goodness the stab wounds were only minor because the football season will begin in 2 months, although the preseason starts in a month and a half and he needs to be healthy.
Let’s get back to basketball! The L.A. Clippers should thank their lucky stars because their star is staying put. Clippers’ power forward Blake Griffin will be signing a 95 million dollar, 5 year extension with the team come Wednesday, July 11th. Although that’s exciting news, unfortunately his partner in crime, guard Chris Paul declined the extension he was offered Saturday. It is said that the decision is “purely procedural”. Next year Chris can sign for 48 million dollars more. The Clippers also pick up Jamal Crawford.
Speaking of extensions, Orlando Magic’s center Dwight Howard wants to be traded. Who you may ask; well Brooklyn of course! Dwight Howard wants to become a Brooklyn Net!
Dwight and the Magic’s new general manager Rob Hennigan had a sit down about Dwight’s feelings about his current situation within the organization Friday in L.A. Dwight expressed as he did in December before the season started, that he wanted to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
In mid March Dwight did opt into his final year with the Orlando Magic organization, which he claims he was “blackmailed” into doing. Since then Dwight has become even more unhappy with his current team and the talks of trades came up again. But will he be traded or will he have to stay in Orlando one more season?
With the Olympics approaching in late July, the USA Men’s basketball team is looking skimpy. Orlando’s Dwight Howard, Bulls’ Derrick Rose, Miami’s Dwayne Wade and Miami’s Chris Bosh most definitely won’t be participating in the summer games in London, and Lakers’ Andrew Bynum said he’s taking the summer off to rest his knees. Well you can add University of Kentucky player of the year that was the #1 draft pick, Anthony Davis to the list.
Anthony was invited to practice with the USA Men’s team along with some other players but on Saturday during practice he severely sprained his ankle. Unfortunately due to his sprain, sources say that Anthony will miss out on the summer games in London as well. We’ll see if anything new develops within these next couple of weeks regarding his injury.
There is always an unexpected turn in sports as these 4 stories prove. Hopefully Aldon gets better and Dwight gets his wish granted. Stay plugged into House of Aura for any new updates.
